Prayers of Light and Love:
Echoing the vibrations of our being, mantras quickly build luminous light into our aura enhancing our protective energetic shield by strengthening the integrity of our mental field, which sustains the proper flow of energies in the sphere of the mind. We are no longer vulnerable to external conditioning.
Mantras are sound and according to the Vedas, sound comes from the Sun, which reflects the nature of Light. Mantras are a form of Light and it is this Light that builds a luminous protective aura.
Generally Mantras are chanted in Sanskrit. Even the chanting of the Sanskrit alphabet adds balance to the energy of the mind. Each Sanskrit Mantra will produce a different response in the body and this emotional vibratory response translates into the meaning of the Mantra. Every person's response to a mantra will be different which contributes to the many nuances of interpretations applied to the same Sanskrit Mantra.
Several factors determine the energetic affect a Mantra can have:
The sound factor - All sounds have a quality that tends to be expanding or contracting, heating or cooling or stimulating or calming. The effect of the mantra is closely related to the energy inherent in the nature of a sound.**
The Pranic Factor - the same sound can be made softly or hard and intense which directly affects the impact of the energy of the sound.
The Mental Factor - we energize sounds with our thoughts, emotions and the very meaning of the sound, which all stem directly from the intention we set in our hearts and minds.
**The sound quality inherent in a mantra is the most universal and provides the real power of Sanskrit mantras. The "older" mantras are powerful as their inherent sound quality has withstood the test of time.
Here is a list of a few Sanskrit Chants and their meanings:
Om Sri Rama Jaya, Rama Jaya Jaya Rama
This mantra helps to realize the divine self - Love.
Love conquers all.
Om Namah Shivaya This mantra accelerates spiritual growth and activates the flow of
energy in the charkas. It associates with the elements earth, water,
fire, air, and ether.
Hung Vairah Peh
By the power of will, through the spoken word, I invoke the
thunderbolt of my mind.
So'Ham
This mantra, the sound of the breath, is a great statement of
Spiritual knowledge. So or Sa means He as the higher Self, the
Atman. Ham is short for Aham meaning ÒIÓ myself. This natural
Sound then is saying that HE (the higher Self) and I or I am God or
Pure consciousness. This mantra leads us to our inner guru who is
Always teaching us our oneness with all.
Lokah Samastah Bhavantu
Let everybody in the world be happy.
Let all the worlds be happy.
May Peace & Happiness Prevail.
May all beings be happy.
Om Shanti Om
Om, Dynamic Peace
To create English mantras presents a special challenge. Sanskrit speaks more to the emotional body whereas English speaks more to the mental body. To create an English mantra that also embraces the emotional body requires thoughtfulness. Below are a few mantras I have worked with.
Explore and create your own manta letting a natural rhythm flow. Happy Chanting !
May Peace Be with You
Love, Truth, Beauty
Trust, harmony, Peace
May Grace fill my Spirit
The Divine is Light, may we walk in Light
